Are You Shopping for Hijabs?

Shopping Blog

Are you shopping for new hijabs because you are a new convert to the Muslim faith? Or perhaps you have been a Muslim for your entire life, wearing hijabs for many years. In either case, here are some ideas that might help you, from buying chiffon hijabs for elegant occasions to selecting casual ones for everyday use.

Make a List

If you are buying hijabs for the very first time, consider getting a Muslim friend to help you make a list of the clothing you will want. She will more than likely be very happy to take you to shops that specialize in clothing for Muslim women. If you are a lifelong believer, you probably already have several hijabs, but you just want to replenish your wardrobe, right? Maybe some of your hijabs look worn, or maybe you want to add some interest to your existing hijabs.

As you make your list, consider buying at least one chiffon hijab for elegant occasions. Select chiffon hijabs in your favorite colors. For example, if you are a brunette with olive skin, you will probably want to select jewel tones for your chiffon hijab. If you are lighter skinned, maybe with light blond hair, you might want to select colors like soft blue, light yellow, or pale pink. Another idea is to start with basic black chiffon and then add colorful headwear that will complement the black. No matter the color or the design of your chiffon hijabs, consider washing them by hand and letting them air dry.

Casual Hijabs

Besides the elegant chiffon hijabs, consider buying jersey hijabs for everyday use. Do you participate in sports? If so, you'll more than likely also want to purchase hijabs that are designed especially for athletic wear. The great part about selecting jersey hijabs for every day use and for participating in sports is that jersey is very easy to wash. Just place them in the washer with a gentle soap and dry them on the low cycle. Or, dry them for about four or five minutes and then hang them up to air dry.

As you select jersey hijabs, think of choosing some patterned fabrics. For example, choose a floral design. If you like a more contemporary look, go with a geometric design. Again, choose colors that you love. And buy basic colors, too. This way, you can wear them with your more colorful pieces to add interest to your wardrobe.

The Power of Your Sense of Smell

Even as a child, I recognized that scent has the power to influence mood. The aroma of warm bread fresh from the oven still makes me feel safe and nurtured, even if I am the one who did the baking. The smell of sawdust reminds me of my grandfather who owned a lumber mill, and, strangely enough, the scent of paint thinner triggers memories of visiting my father at his machine shop on hot, summer days. Now that I have my own home, I use scent to help build my family's excitement for the holidays. Certain aromas reassure me that my house is clean or help me relax after a long day. The right smell can alleviate anxiety, promote a sense of calm, and signal that I am truly home.
